Applications invited for national bio entrepreneurship contest                                                                 

      

The Bengaluru-based Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP) has called for applications from bio entrepreneurs and innovators for the sixth edition of its National Bio Entrepreneurship Competition (NBEC). It is designed to identify and nurture those working on novel and scalable business ideas that could have significant societal impact.

Launched in 2017, the contest offers attractive cash prizes and investment opportunities. It has, over the years, emerged as an essential platform for bio-entrepreneurs and innovators in India to showcase their deep science-driven ideas. It has so far brought to the forefront 63 promising young entrepreneurs.


The Bengaluru-based Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP) has called for applications from bio entrepreneurs and innovators for the sixth edition of its National Bio Entrepreneurship Competition (NBEC). It is designed to identify and nurture those working on novel and scalable business ideas that could have significant societal impact.


The contest is open for path-breaking business ideas in the life- sciences domain, spanning agricultural technology and molecular biology, including conventional plant breeding, tissue culture, molecular breeding, genetic engineering, and diagnostics, therapeutics, nutrition for veterinary applications. The contest also welcomes ideas in healthcare, including diagnostics, drug discovery & development of vaccines, therapeutics, and medical devices; environment-related issues including clean and renewable energy, biofuels, water treatment, and solid waste treatment; industrial Biotechnology, including enzymes, and bioplastics; and personal care products.

The awards will be presented in two categories. Award for student teams comprises a total cash prizes of up to INR 10 lakhs, and the other for startups/ individuals would offer cash prizes worth Rs. 16 crores, and investment opportunities. Besides, the winners of both categories would benefit from mentorship from key industry leaders.

A C-CAMP statement said that the last date for application would be October 10.
