Call for Nominations – ‘Against Odds’ section of a Science TV Show

DST – Vigyan Prasar, under the aegis of O/o Principal Scientific Adviser, Govt. of India is undertaking a project for the development of content aggregation and working scripts for 52 episodes of a “Weekly Popular Science & Technology Programme to be produced jointly by Vigyan Prasar & Sansad TV.”

The central objective of the TV programme is a) to nurture scientific temper; and b) showcase science, technology, and innovation in India. The show will mainly focus on stories from Indian labs, and institutions.

This programme will be aired by Sansad TV as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, to celebrate the 75 years of an independent India and highlight how science and technology in India have enabled the ease of living and contributed to the socio-economic development of the country. The programme will also have segments to showcase how Indian public and private sectors are gearing up to make an Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

The TV programme has been structured as 5-6 sections with standalone content. I am writing to you about the ‘Against the Odds’ section. This segment of the programme will be a 3-minute-long feature on scientists or technologists, who have endured challenging circumstances at work and in life and are recognized as accomplished individuals in their field. This will be in the format of the profile. The segment will also feature researchers who work in extreme conditions (deep oceans, low temperatures, etc.) as a part of research studies. A combination of the two aspects will help put the spotlight on our scientists’ lives and their work.

It would be covering 52 researchers, one per episode.
Head of scientific academies / scientific institutions are requested to nominate not less than 25 scientists / technologists. The following information should accompany each nomination.
1. What work/aspect of the researcher’s work, according to you, makes them suitable for the nomination? (50 – 100 words)
2. Share a short bio of the researcher.
3. Contact information of the nominees. Email ID of the nominated researcher is a must.
