Technologies for women

National Conference on Science Communication – Addressing Women’s Issues: :

To address women’s issues, VP organized National Conference on Science Communication – Addressing Women’s issues at Kolkata in partnership with National Centre for Science Communicators, Mumbai during 7-8 January 2012. The conference had four sessions namely “Engaging women in science Communication”, “Challenges in Education and Gender Differences”, “Myths and Misconceptions” and “Health awareness in women”. It was attended by 125 participants comprising science communicators, scientists, researchers, and teachers from different parts of the country. Various issues related to women were discussed and it was emphasized that attempts will be made to develop innovative communication strategies to reach women at different levels.

One day Seminar on Women Empowerment :

One day a seminar on Growth Development and Empowerment of Women was organized on December 21, 2011 at New Delhi in partnership with Indian Science Congress Association (Delhi Chapter).

Radio Serial on Women Empowerment through Science & Technology :

A 13- episode radio serial on Women and Science titled “Swa-Shakti” was produced jointly with All India Radio and broadcast from 119 radio stations in the country. It was produced in 19 Indian languages.

Technology Awareness for Women :

VP initiated a project on “Developing Materials for Science and Technological Awareness for Women” with an objective to:

  • To generate technology awareness amongst women in Rural and Semi Urban regions of India.
  • To impart proper understanding on technology to women, related to its function, its use and simple maintenance.
  • To introduce local technologies designed by several different organizations across the country for simplification of work at domestic levels, farming.
  • To design and develop easy to understand reference/outreach material for women for better understanding of technology.
  • To provide technology support material to women in rural and semi rural regions of the country for being self-sustainable.
