Cosmos from my Terrace

(Only for Delhi-NCR Schools/Colleges/Organizations)

Astronomy is such a fascinating subject that attracts not only students but also layman and amateurs. Curiosity to understand the subject is very common in all age groups. Interest is on higher scale when one talk about the exciting topics like life on other planets, moon, black hole, galaxies and many more. Historically, astronomy is the oldest subject to which many philosophers, mathematicians and astrologers have contributed. After the invention of telescope by Mr Hans Lippershey and later on by Galileo Galilee the entire scenario of observational astronomy has been changed.

Over the last 18 years, Vigyan Prasar has procured many instruments and gadgets for the astronomy communication including telescopes and other backend instruments. These instruments have been extensively used for various purposes like viewing of planets, star clusters, eclipses, transits of inner planets etc. Apart from the observations, these are also used to generate scientific data like photometric observations of stars and atmospheric extinction values in and around Delhi and NCR.

Vigyan Prasar would like to make the use of these facilities to its greatest extent by lending these to various schools/colleges/amateur groups in and around New Delhi for three month observing slot starting from 01 September to 30 November 2013. These facilities will be provided to generate the interest in astronomy in their local area as well as the students from schools in the vicinity.
